How we created the Paper Aquarium web ad
posted July 6th, 2012
Today, we are going to talk a little about what went on behind the scenes of creating the following Paper Aquarium online ad that was on Oh So Pretty The Diaries website.
Step 1: I started out by creating a new document in Photoshop, and making it the size needed for the ad, which was 200x200 pixels.
Step 2: I then added our branding/logo which is a good start for almost any ad, and decided where I wanted to put it.
Step 3: Then I added the copy that we wanted to use and played around with fonts, color, and positions.
Step 4: After you figure out what message you want to get across to the viewers, type it up and place the text in the desired position.
Step 5: Then we wanted to have some kind of texture in the background to give it a little more depth.
Step 6: Next, we chose some artwork to draw the eye into the flow of the ad.
We decided that the word "create" should be the same pink that matches the branding/logo of Paper Aquarium.
Step 7: Make sure that you play around with those blending modes now!
Step 8: You should also draw attention to the fact that the viewer can click your ad to visit your website or view the product you may be selling.
Step 9: Since most of our website's featured artists are photographers, we wanted to focus on that. We found an image of a camera, but I wanted to use just the camera. By using Photoshop's great pen tool, I used it to draw out a selection of the camera.
Step 10: I copied the selection of the camera, pasted it into my ad document, and resized it to the correct size for the ad.
Step 11: To finish the ad, I decided to add a slight border.
